<resTitle>ACIMS Species Element Table - Public</resTitle>
</idCitation>
<idAbs>This dataset contains the current ACIMS Species-related Elements of Biodiversity (Elements) recorded for Alberta. Elements are biodiversity units for which a conservation status rank can be assigned. Elements can be recognized at different taxonomic levels. Elements in the ACIMS database include species, subspecies, and varieties. They also include ecological communities and other non-taxonomic biological entities (for example, migratory species aggregation areas). The Element of Biodiversity concept is part of NatureServe methodology. This methodology is used throughout the NatureServe network.This data updates on a daily basis.</idAbs>

<idPurp>The Alberta Conservation Information Management System (ACIMS) Species Element Table lists species (and infraspecies) reported for Alberta along with conservation status ranks. Those deemed to be of conservation concern are tracked. Spatial data is collected for tracked elements and used to create Element Occurrences. ACIMS is the Alberta member of the international network of NatureServe Conservation Data Centers. The Government of Alberta is the owner of the Element data stored in the NatureServe Canada Biotics database. Species-related elements include: 1) species [example: Dwarf Woollyheads (Psilocarphus brevissimus)], 2) infraspecific taxa including subspecies, varieties, populations and hybrids [example:variety of Dwarf Woollyheads present in Canada (Psilocarphus brevissimus var. brevissimus)], and 3) non-taxonomic biological entities, such as breeding bird colonies, which are important to species level conservation.</idPurp>
