Population Centres - Cities, Towns, Hamlets, Villages, Summer Villages, Settlements, Subdivisions, Localities and one Townsite. Derived from the BASEFEAT.BF_GEO_ set of ArcSDE layers provided by the Informatics Division as area/polygon features (and point features for Localities), and also from Area Fire Centre inventories on communities/population centres for FireSmart purposes. This version is represented as point data.
Allow representation of different types of Population Centres as point features for small scale maps. This dataset also provides a medium to search for communities when the municipality type is unknown.
Edits:
20130522: Added 15 more subdivisions in Rocky Mountain House WMA and 5 more in Slave Lake WMA. Removed the Smith that was in the Rocky Mountain House WMA.
20130415: Added several more locations from a list of FireSmart communities.
20130206: Added several subdivisions and settlements from a list of FireSmart communities. Changed several "Undetermined" features to other geoadmin types. Deleted several features that appeared to have to features of a community.
20130131: Removed all Settlements that appear to have no qualities of a "community". Matched up types to that of official base feature datasets and Municipal Codes so that the types are brough up-to-date. Added a GA_TYPE attibute value of "Undetermined" for those population centres that were not listed in the Municipal Codes or in the base feature CULTURE_POINT or SETTLEMENT feature classes that were not already added as "Subdivision".
20090720: deleted all "Camp" features; changed GA_TYPE for "Lac La Biche" and "Sangudo" to "Hamlet".
