<resTitle>Piping Plover Waterbodies Outline</resTitle>
</idCitation>
<idAbs>This layer represents the Poping Plover Waterbodies fill area with an outline for the waterbodies which provides the general public, industrial operators and government departments information regarding the location of Piping Plover waterbodies. Specific operating conditions apply to these areas. Land-use guidelines stipulate timing and setback conditions for all identified lakes.
This layer is not visible beyond the scale of 1:6,933,486.
This dataset is produced for the Government of Alberta and is available to the general public. Please consult the Distribution Information of this metadata for the appropriate contact to acquire this dataset. Piping Plovers (Charadrius melodus) are small shorebirds considered Endangered in Canada and Alberta. Piping Plovers are sensitive to human disturbance, and human activity in breeding areas may decrease survival of eggs or cygnets.The Piping Plover Waterbodies layer includes all water bodies as of 2009 with confirmed breeding pairs as determined by annual surveys. An entire water body is considered a nesting site. Piping Plover lakes were determined by clipping mapped waterbody features to survey points. Accuracy of hydro layers is limiting, and it is recommended that all proponents measure setback distances from the high-water mark.
