originator The Specialized Municipality dataset is comprised of all the polygons that represent Specialized Municipalities in Alberta. Specialized Municipality is a type of municipality which does not meet the needs of the residents of a proposed municipality such as City, Municipal District, Town or Village; but formed to provide for a form of local government that will provide for the orderly development of the municipality or by any other reason that is appropriate in the circumstances. Specialized municipalities are unique municipal structures that can be formed without resorting to special Acts of the legislature. Often, specialized municipalities allow urban and rural communities to coexist in a single municipal government. processor The latest MS Excel spreadsheet of the Municipal Codes is downloaded from the Alberta Municipal Affairs website and converted to dBase III format. The Specialized Municipality table (SPMUN_NAME and SPMUN_CODE) of the Base Features Geoadministrative Areas Specification, is updated according to the Altalis Ltd. Municipal Boundary Change Tracking spreadsheet, and converted from MS Word to dBase III format. The original source Specialized Municipality Shape file received from Altalis is processed, using a Informatics AML, to obtain a formatted individual shape file of Specialized Municipality preserved with the same original spatial accuracy. A 2nd AML is then run to obtain polygons attributed according to the Base Features Geoadministrative Areas Specification Specialized Municipality table standard (i.e. SPMUN_NAME and SPMUN_CODE). processor The Wood Buffalo National Park and Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo was not consistent with that described in O.C. 817/94. The O.C. describes the boundary as following the center of main channels of Athabasca, Embarras, Riviere des Rochers, Slave and Salt Rivers and the shores of Lake Athabasca. The previous version tended to follow the west bank of the rivers. In order to comply with the O.C., the boundary was amended accordingly. In 111-7-W4, the recurrent, rather than the perennial south shore of Lake Athabasca was used to define the boundary and connected with the center channel of Embarras River. In 124-11& 12 -W4, the right bank of Salt River surveyed by R.W. Leeman in June 2000 and shown on registered plan 0124233 was used instead of the Base Features hydrology as this survey was considered to be more accurate. Canada Plan No. 40393: According to the O.C., the boundary follows the west shore of Lake Athabasca as shown on Canada's Plan No. 40393 in 112 & 113 -W4.
