Service Description: Alberta Fire Status by Category Group - Wildfire Locations and Perimeters service includes the points and polygons representing active, turned over, assistance ended and extinguished wildfire locations and perimeters grouped into separate categories more suitable for creating maps. They include wildfires that started within the Forest Protection Area (FPA) where Alberta Wildfire has jurisdiction, mutual aid wildfires that started outside of the FPA where Alberta Wildfire provided assistance, and point locations only for municipal wildfires. An active wildfire is any wildfire that is currently out of control, being held or under control and any mutual aid wildfire where assistance has been started as well as active municipal wildfires. The terms fire and wildfire are used interchangeably.This service consists of ten layers, including six point layers for Alberta wildfire locations, and four polygon layers for Alberta wildfire perimeters. This service is the best option for mapping purposes.The "Alberta Fire Status - Wildfire Locations and Perimeters" (alberta_fire_status) service is the best option for collecting statistics on the current wildfire situation, specifically the "Alberta Wildfire Locations" layer that shows the points for all wildfires that were active on or after January 1 of this current fire year in one single layer (note: municipal wildfires are included in a separate layer).The Fire Type referred to as "Wildfire" in the data are wildfires that started within the FPA where Alberta Wildfire has jurisdiction.The Fire Type referred to as "Mutual Aid" in the data are wildfires that started outside of the FPA, or within an urban municipality within the FPA, where Alberta Wildfire provided assistance.The Assessment Assistance Date refers to the initial assessment date of a "Wildfire" or the assistance date of a "Mutual Aid" wildfire.Carryover wildfires include both Fire Types that are active, extinguished, turned over or for which assistance ended on or after January 1. A carryover wildfire is distinguished by the label on the wildfire point location, designed using the Carryover Flag. A carryover fire label will include the year in addition to the fire number, whereas current-year wildfires only show the fire number.The Fire Type used in combination with the Fire Status include the following unique values that are used to create the wildfire layers:Out of Control (OC): The Fire Type is "Wildfire". The wildfire has been put out and is no longer burning, or Alberta Wildfire resources are no longer working on the incident.The wildfire locations show the points for all current-year wildfires and wildfires from previous years that were still active on January 1 of this year (carryover fires). The symbology used for the wildfire location layers are flames. The Fire Type "Wildfire" are flames colour coded by Fire Status. The Fire Type "Mutual Aid" are purple flames inside a circle colour coded by Fire Status. Assistance started is a purple flame only, as a status has not been assigned.The Alberta Municipal Wildfire Locations represents point locations of wildfires reported by municipalities to the Government of Alberta, Forestry and Parks. Each feature includes a fire incident status attribute indicating whether the wildfire is active, inactive (not spreading), or extinguished (completely out). The symbology used in the Municipal Wildfire Locations layer are blue flames inside a circle colour coded by fire incident status. The active and inactive municipal wildfires may include carryover wildfires from the previous year, while the extinguished municipal wildfires will only include current year wildfires.
