description: Historical Wildfires Data Service includes the points and polygons designed to provide users with a representation of all historical wildfire and mutual aid fire point locations and perimeters for the last ten (10) years for the province of Alberta. Mutual aid fires are wildfires for which jurisdictions other than the Gov't of Alberta have the responsibility for the suppression of (such as an urban municipality, a municipality outside the legislated Forest Protection Area, or a neighbouring province/territory), and the Gov't of Alberta has been asked to provide aid in the suppression. This data does not include any fires that have started in the current year. The Historical Wildfire Location - Carry Over Fire Points include all wildfire and mutual aid fire locations from the previous fire season that are currently still active for the province of Alberta. An active fire is any fire that is currently out of control, being held, under control or a mutual aid fire that is being actively assisted on.The Historical Wildfire Location layers includes the points of all wildfire and mutual aid fire locations that started in the year indicated for each individual year dating back for ten (10) years and will be extinguished or assistance ended.Historical Wildfire Perimeter layers includes the polygons of all wildfire and mutual aid fire perimeters that started in the year indicated for each individual year dating back for ten (10) years. The perimeters include extinguished and assistance ended fires, but may also include some active fires. Active fires will be most common in the 1 year prior perimeter layer at the beginning of a fire season, if the associated fire point is from the Historical Wildfire Location - Carry Over Fire layer then the fire is still active, otherwise the fire will be included in the same year wildfire location layer and be extinguished or assistance ended.
