Service Description: Wildfire - Hydrography - Lake / River / Stream service includes the lines and polygons designed to provide users with a representation of the hydrographic features for the province of Alberta in the WGS 1984 Web Mercator (auxiliary sphere) projection.Hydrography is the science of measuring and describing the physical features of oceans, seas, rivers, lakes, streams, creeks and other water features.The hydrographic features for Alberta include polygons for all the lakes, rivers, reservoirs, icefields, canals, oxbows, quarries and dugouts. They also include the lines for all the streams, creeks, and aqueducts.The hydrography features are essential to wildfire operations as water sources for helicopters and planes to refill buckets or tanks, and for ground crews to set up portable pumps, they also help provide natural barriers to stop or slow the spread of fires.
