Service Description: This map service contains the low pressure natural gas pipelines, customer meters, community gas distributors and franchise areas for distributors in Alberta and includes Gas Co-ops, Municipalities, Investor-owned Utilities and Independent areas.The pipeline and customer meter datasets are annually updated by Rural Utilities based on the previous year's as-built submission from the distributor. 1) Pipe material, status (active or abandon), franchise area and contact information specified in the database attributes2) Meter types specified in the database attributes 3) Plans have been compiled from information received from rural gas distributors ortheir agents. 4) Updates for each distributor are received annually.Rural Gas Franchise areas are created and maintained by Rural Utilities under the authority of the Gas Distribution Act. “Changes to boundaries are based on a) additions or deletions of lands under the Gas Distribution Act and b) annexations or dissolutions under the Municipal Government Act.”, Franchises cannot be issued for federal lands. However, the gas distributors serving these lands are under the authority of the Gas Distribution Act.Community gas distributor boundary datasets are obtained from Municipal Affairs, Government of Alberta and annually updated in this map service by Rural Utilities. Please Note:Rural Utilities assumes no responsibility as to the accuracy or completeness of these plans, Individual distributors must be contacted for actual locations of their pipelines and customer meters. For pipelines and customer meters located in Indigenous Lands, please contact the applicable Band Administration Office or the gas distributor for that area. Rural Utilities will not be liable for any direct, indirect, special, punitive, or consequential damages arising from the use of, or the inability to use this website.
