Alberta Conservation Information Management System (ACIMS) Sensitive Element Occurrence (EO) data contains tracked sensitive EO's for species of conservation concern in Alberta. This file contains EO polygons mapped based on NatureServe Methodology. Sensitive EO data is hazed (generalized) to the Alberta Township System Township (ATS) polygons (v4.1). ACIMS is the Alberta member of the international network of NatureServe Conservation Data Centres. The Government of Alberta is responsible for managing ecological data within the province of Alberta stored by NatureServe Canada. Vertebrate data is excluded. ACIMS Objectives:
(1) Conservation Planning: to help government agencies and conservation groups identify critical areas in need of protection, and to support the establishment of conservation priorities locally, regionally, nationally and globally; (2) Development Planning: to assist developers, government agencies and conservation groups design and implement ecologically sound development projects; (3) Natural Resource and Protected Area Management: to support improved management practices for natural areas to sustain ecosystems and significant biological features; and (4) Research and Education: to guide new basic and applied scientific research, and to be an important resource for long-term environmental monitoring and public education. |
