This layer represents the Mountain Goat And Bighorn Sheep Areas Disease Buffer label which provides the general public, industrial operators and government departments information regarding the area where the use of domestic sheep and goat is restricted to minimize risk of disease transmission to mountain goats (Oreamnos americanus) and bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis). Specific operating conditions apply to the Goat and Sheep Areas Disease Buffer.
This dataset is produced for the Government of Alberta and is available to the general public. Please consult the Distribution Information of this metadata for the appropriate contact to acquire this dataset. The Mountain Goat and Sheep Areas Disease Buffer was produced by applying a 32 km buffer to the Mountain Goat and Sheep Areas wildlife sensitivity layer and from know sheep wintering ranges in Waterton and Jasper National Parks. The primary purpose of the Mountain Goat and Sheep Areas Disease Buffer layer is to:
a) Minimize or reduce adverse effects of land use activities on bighorn sheep and mountain goat population health, and b) Reduce or eliminate potential contact between wild and domestic sheep and goats.
This layer is not visible beyond the scale of 1:3,466,742.
