Ord's Kangaroo Rat Habitat
This dataset will provide industrial operators and government departments information regarding the location of sensitive habitat for Ord’s kangaroo rat that must be avoided.
This dataset contains Ord’s kangaroo rat habitat that must be avoided by land use activities. Polygons were delineated based on observations from relevant databases in Alberta and suitable habitat (i.e., sand dunes) with a 250m setback from observations, as per the approved setback. Once a polygon was modified, its border was smoothed.

Ord's Kangaroo Rat Range
This dataset is produced to provide industrial operators and government departments information regarding the location of Ord's Kangaroo Rat Range for the application of appropriate wildlife surveys. Specific operating conditions may apply upon the results of wildlife surveys.
This dataset is produced for the Government of Alberta and is available to the general public. Please consult the Distribution Information of this metadata for the appropriate contact to acquire this dataset. A smoothed minimum convex polygon (MCP) was used to delineate a range based on observations from relevant databases in Alberta. Additional considerations were used to further filter range boundaries after observation data were plotted. Historical/extirpated observations were removed; bio- and geophysical restrictions to species patterns (e.g., rivers, elevation, ecoregions) were used to refine ranges as appropriate, and species experts reviewed maps and provided additional insight. Once an MCP was adequately modified, its border was smoothed. Ord's Kangaroo Rat (Dipodomys ordii) Range was based upon recent observation data records from 2005, to maintain consistency of survey methodology.
