Title: Base Access Roads

Comments:

The primary purpose of the Base Access Program (BAP) Road feature class is access mapping (digital or hard copy) which provides an indication of the road network and general condition of the roads in non-urban areas of the province, across private and Crown land. The secondary purpose is providing data to land use planners and resource managers for decision making and operations.

Base Access Program (BAP) does only limited work in urban areas focusing on major arteries with some work on the residential road network to provide an overview of the roads. This is based on the limited resources of the BAP and requirements of the clients using the BAP data, which are dealing mainly with rural mapping and analysis. In contrast, a lot of effort is placed on collecting every numbered highway in the province and to maintain their attribution and spatial accuracy. The rural municipal roads are generally well maintained, all-weather roads and relatively consistent across the province.

Additional information on Base Access Roads can be found on GeoDiscover Alberta.

To add a legend item for this Base Access Roads vector tile layer, use the following map image service:

https://geospatial-dev.alberta.ca/portal/home/item.html?id=b8673aa3ff364968a4e6e6883a8d6767
