Service Description: This map service contains representations of layers of the Research License - Pre-approved Assessments and Salvages(RL-PAAS)Special Waters - Streams and Lakes in the province of Alberta.Research License - Pre-approved Assessments and Salvages(RL-PAAS)Special Waters - Streams is a derived dataset from the Fish and Wildlife Management Information System (FWMIS) - Hydrology Arcs, which comes from the Base Features Derived Simplified Linear Network, which is a derived dataset of the Single Line Hydrography Network (Base Stream and Flow Representation) dataset. RL-PAAS Special Waters - Streams has been isolated for Fish and Wildlife business purposes, where spatial adjustmentsand selectionshave been added or removed as required. The selection processincludes, but isnot limited to, recorded presence of a Species at Risk (modern or historical),a critical habitat within the stream, streams with a Strahler Order of 3 or greater, tributaries to main streams selected as Special Waters, water temperature data where available, Class A Code of Practice Watercoursesand local working knowledge from biological experts. Please refer to the metadata included with the data for full entity attribute information.Research License - Pre-approved Assessments and Salvages (RL-PAAS) Special Waters - Streams are used to identify streams and rivers within the province of Alberta associated with the use of the RL-PAAS only. Special waters designation indicates the need for a consultant to submit a Request for Approval to the Alberta Environment and Parks biologist responsible for the request and obtain approval before proceeding with any work. This layer provides fish species presence (both current and historic), Fish and Wildlife Management Information System (FWMIS) Waterbody ID, Waterbody Official and Common Names, and Strahler Stream Order information. FWMIS Waterbody ID's are included and are unique values assigned to mapped waterbodies with or without fish or fish habitat survey information (both current and historic). This layer also provides the Fisheries Management Region contact for any special water of interest, which serves to help Government of Alberta Staff and external consultants determine which Biologist is responsible for and has authority over fisheries-related approvals, including the RL-PAAS licenses, within the region. RL-PAAS Special Waters - Lakes is a derived dataset from the Fish and Wildlife Management Information System (FWMIS) - Hydrology Polygons, which comes from the Base Features Waterbody Polygon (Base Waterbody Polygon) dataset. Base Waterbody Polygon is the Alberta Environment and Parks base hydrography polygon dataset, and comprises seamless provincial extent hydrography polygon features collected from various sources of provincial base and resource map based data and some federal topographic data. The selection processincludes, but isnot limited to, recorded presence of a Species at Risk (modern or historical), presence of critical habitat and local working knowledge from biological experts.
