Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP) coverage areas are created by Data Analytics and GIS Team within PSES through consultation with Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA). The coverage areas are composed of all the municipalities for which each PSAP is responsible. The municipalities on which PSAP coverage areas are built upon are created and maintained by Alberta Environment and Protect Areas (EPA), Provincial Geospatial Centre (PGC). PSAPs receive and respond to 911 calls from the public and dispatch fire, police, or ambulance services.Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) boundaries play a foundational role in supporting the effort to move towards Next Generation 911 (NG911) by enabling accurate call routing, improved data sharing, and more resilient emergency communications. NG911 moves 911 systems from legacy, voice‑only infrastructure to IP‑based networks that handle voice, text, images, video, and rich location data. Clear, authoritative PSAP boundaries are essential for making that transition work effectively. |
