Service Description: This layer includes polygons representing the Major and Minor Borden blocks in Alberta. The Borden system is a nation-wide system for numbering archaeological sites that was developed by Charles Borden at the University of British Columbia in 1954. In this system, Canada is split into a grid of blocks based on longitude and latitude. Archaeological sites are assigned unique identifiers based on where they fall in the Borden grid and the sequence in which they were location. All Borden numbers in Alberta are assigned by the Archaeological Survey at the Historic Resources Management Branch. For more information about archaeological site management in Alberta see https://www.alberta.ca/archaeological-sites-alberta.aspx.
