Layer: Wet Areas Mapping - Predicted Streams (ID: 0)

Name: Wet Areas Mapping - Predicted Streams

Display Field: LINKNO

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolyline

Description: This layer represents the Wet Areas Mapping - Predicted Streams arcs and is not visible out beyond the scale of 1:108, 335. The predicted flow channel data is derived from the bare ground digital elevation model of digitally processed LiDAR surface images of one (1.0) metre resolution. These predicted flow channel lines depict potential locations of stream channels. These channels may not always be wet during every season, but they are predicted to have a high potential for being wet during a heavy rain event or wet season. Stream channels are predicted across the landscape such that a minimum of four (4.0) hectares of up-slope area must drain to any specific point before a channel will be initiated. The primary purpose of this data is to inform land managers of the potential presence of sensitive aquatic habitats and areas sensitive to disturbance. Early identification of these features in the planning process should contribute to achieving goals related to land stewardship and sustainability. This product was developed primarily to assist Alberta's forest sector in ensuring the sustainability of these sensitive aquatic habitats that are threatened by the Mountain Pine Beetle. The predicted flow channel lines, derived from the bare-ground digital elevation model of digitally processed LiDAR surface images, inform about the potential locations of stream channel beds across the landscape. These polyline shapefiles are an intermediate step in the wet areas mapping process and are used to define the connected hydrographic network across the landscape.
