Service Description: FRIAA - FireSmart Vector Data Service includes the points and polygons designed to provide Active Wildfire Lookouts, Historical Wildfire Point Locations, FireSmart Community Zones and Historical Wildfire Perimeters to the Forest Resource Improvement Association of Alberta (FRIAA) for the FireSmart Program for the province of Alberta.WF_WILDFIRE_LOOKOUT - Active Wildfire Lookouts includes the points representing all the active wildfire lookout towers and alpine cabins for the province of Alberta. Alberta's network of 100 active fire lookouts (127 lookouts in total) uses steel towers and alpine cabins to provide early wildfire detection. Staffed seasonally from March to October, isolated observers scan vast landscapes for smoke. These private residences, often protected by electric fences to deter bears, serve as essential hubs where observers report 30% of the province's wildfires.WF_FIRE_HISTORICAL - Historical Wildfire Point Locations and the WF_HISTORICAL_FIREPOLY - Historical Wildfire Perimeters includes the points and polygons representing the historical wildfire locations and perimeters where the wildfire started within the Forest Protection Area (FPA) where Alberta Wildfire has jurisdiction, and mutual aid fires that started outside of the FPA where Alberta Wildfire provided assistance for the province of Alberta. They include: extinguished wildfires, turned over, extinguished mutual aid fires, and assistance ended mutual aid fires. The Fire Type referred to specifically as "Wildfire" in the data are the fires that started within the FPA where Alberta Wildfire has jurisdiction. The Fire Type referred to specifically as "Mutual Aid" in the data are the fires that started outside of the FPA, or within an urban municipality within the FPA, where Alberta Wildfire provided assistance. The Assessment Assistance Date refers to the initial assessment date of a "Wildfire" or the assistance date of a "Mutual Aid" fire.WF_FIRESMART_COMM_ZONE - Firesmart Community Zones includes the polygons referring to specific areas around homes and within a neighbourhood where proactive vegetation and fuel management actions are taken to reduce wildfire risk. The primary goal is to interrupt the spread of fire by modifying the landscape. FireSmart Community Zones (FSCZ) outline boundaries within the Province of Alberta’s Forest Protection Area where debris disposal must be conducted in accordance with the "Debris Management Standards for Timber harvest Operations".
