Description: Wildfires from 1931 to the end of the 2017 Fire Year (March 31, 2018) within the forested area of the province have been recorded and mapped in a variety of different ways. Fire perimeters have been captured using hand sketches, aerial photography, satellite imagery, global positioning systems and infrared scanning methods and have been archived in various forms. These include the transfer of line work to paper or films of forest inventory maps, provincial base maps or more recently captured in digital form. All these historical fires that have a polygon line representing the fire perimeter have recently had the line work entered into a Geographic Information System. This data set does not represent every fire from the fire years. Rather, it represents some of the larger fires that were capable of capturing.
